Masonry Contractor in Millcreek, UT
Millcreek includes one of the valley's best documented mid century brick neighborhoods. We repair, repoint and build masonry across the city, and can help you work through the city's rules for walls and grading.
Mountair Acres and mid century brick
The National Register nomination for the Mountair Acres Subdivision Historic District documents a neighborhood platted in 1939, with construction starting in 1940 and largely finished by 1952. It identifies brick as a dominant material for the houses there, including Early Ranch and Minimal Traditional examples.
On brick homes from that period, repointing should use a mortar suited to the original brick rather than the hardest mix available (why that matters). Chimneys deserve a look too, since they take the most weather (chimney repair).
Retaining walls, fill and grading
Millcreek's Building Department exempts retaining walls that hold back less than four feet of unbalanced fill, but only when there is no surcharge and none of the listed design exceptions apply. Grade changes over 12 inches still need Public Works approval (Millcreek Building Department).
The city also lists extra building requirements for properties inside the Neff's Creek Floodplain. That applies to mapped properties, not every Millcreek address; the city's page explains how to check.
