Masonry Contractor in Holladay, UT
Holladay has some of the most specific retaining wall rules in the valley. We build and repair walls, chimneys and stonework across the city, and plan projects around its grading, easement and tree requirements.
Retaining walls: what Holladay's code says
Holladay requires a permit for retaining walls taller than four feet, and walls inside a required yard setback need review by the City Engineer (Holladay Code §13.76.700).
The same section prohibits retaining systems on a property line or within recorded easements, and treats walls that hold back a natural cut slope differently from walls holding artificial backfill. If your project involves filling behind a wall, read the backfill provisions specifically; they do not apply to every wall.
Trees and grading
Grading or filling covered by the city's tree canopy rules can require a statement that protected trees will not be affected, or a tree canopy sustainability plan, under §13.77.080. Whether it applies depends on the work and the trees involved, so raise it early on any wall project near mature trees.
Submitting a project
The Building Division's construction submittal requirements list what the city needs with an online application. For engineered walls, the design and site plan usually drive the schedule more than the build itself.
